BIAFRA: NIGERIA, HER YOKED DEMOCRACY AND THIS INSISTENT GENERATION OF BIAFRANS

In simple terms, 'democracy' is government of the people, by the people and for the people. No event has proved this better in West Africa better than the recent agitation for the restoration of Biafra. Through Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), power has once again been restored back to the common people.

Rochas Okorocha, the executive governor of Imo State, understood the real meaning of democracy at Owerri Stadium as he witnessed the backfiring arrangement of anti Biafra protest to frustrate IPOB's efforts to restore Biafra.

Willie Obiano, the executive governor of Anambra State, ate his own bitter pie of democracy as a crowd booed him at his campaign ground, chanting: "no election, no election in Biafra."

On the other hand, the Arewa Youths (which is comprised of sixteen major northern groups), urged the United Nations to criminalize self determination in Biafra, declare IPOB a terror organization, conduct referendum and get Nnamdi Kanu rearrested.

Much as I admire their admission that Biafra referendum is long over due, I laugh at their archaic and crude mode of thinking. These characters, who has failed to unmask the sponsors of Boko Haram and has continued to lobby for the release of other Boko Haram members captured during Goodluck Jonathan's administration, are desperate to label IPOB a terrorist organization despite the several commendations IPOB has received from many international and human rights bodies as a peaceful organization.

A government cannot be referred to as democratic till people are able to worship, associate, speak, move and live freely. This is as against the Nigerian system of government that claimed to be democratic despite the exploitation of natural resources from their minority groups, nepotism, mediocrity, disguised Islamization and restriction of free speech.

A government cannot claim to be democratic when it jails, tortures and sometimes kills any opposing voice that dares to challenge the status quo. Democracy has nothing to do with militarization, forceful intimidations, forgery and secret murders cleverly covered up with civil lies and tricks.

Britain, having failed to manipulate the Biafran nation through their leaders, has continued to use Fulani despots to repress, oppress and exploit Biafra and Biafrans.

In developed countries like the USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland etc, human life is valued, preserved and is not terminated at the will of the government. In Nigeria, lives are wasted; they have become meaningless to policemen, military personnel, ritual performers, criminals, etc. No one is held accountable for such uncountable losses. It has gotten so bad that the World Economic Forum in a recent report rated South Sudan to be safer than Nigeria; as Nigeria drew with Syria on safety indices.

The Nigerian youths and children are exposed to various regress of dangers as they labor to survive on highways, motor parks, markets, etc. Some are used as maids and factory workers.
They have unplanned future, very gloomy and uncertain. Many get run over by moving vehicles or picked up as criminals and fined by task force agents. Life for the Nigerian youth is horrible and lacks prospects.

Graduates and non educated ones look alike; they are disgruntled and frustratingly increase bike and bus fares indiscriminately as they struggle to make ends meet. Market women curse uncontrollably whoever dares price their commodities lesser. What a show of frustration and a mockery of democracy!

Civil servants and private workers are underpaid and get indebted before the month ends -to resume same protocol after each payment because they have to pay hiked school fees, house rents, transportation bills, electric and water bills. They provide all these amenities for themselves yet their taxes are deducted from their salaries each month.

Ruling cabals hold onto the seat of power greedily and stuff themselves and families with goodies and foreign trips at the expense of taxpayers. Thugs are empowered at local government levels to terrorize and forcefully make struggling masses pay for their daily endeavors to survive.

Nigeria is good as dead and like old roger is refusing even the old to pick the apples beside his grave. We need to get out of her!
Her time is up! Her game is up! These and more are the reasons why IPOB has been demanding for her exit from the damnable Nigeria. Biafrans have resolved to press unto their freedom to save the future of the unborn generation from this menace.

  1. One of the most obvious defects of democracy is that voting is based upon universal suffrage. That is, the right to cast a vote depends on age. guarantor loans
