BIAFRA: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT GOES HIDING AS ECOWAS PROMISES TO GIVE FINAL VERDICT ON 8TH NOVEMBER 2016.

Wednesday 5th October 2016

Nigerian government went hiding today at the Community Court Of Justice, ECOWAS (Economic Community Of West African States) Abuja, as judges of the Community Court appeared to conduct a hearing on Nnamdi Kanu's (the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra) case.

ECOWAS judges led by Justice Friday Nwoke arrived court at exactly 10:09am as court proceedings commenced promptly with the introduction of Nnamdi Kanu's defence team led by Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor after which the court clerk called up the case from the case file.

The Nigerian government's defence lawyer was absent from the court with claims that he has a court case in Kaduna State in a motion he submitted in the early hours of the day.
Reacting to this, Barr Ejiofor persuaded the judge to continue with the case owing to the short notice given by the Nigeria's defence lawyer, which he sees as not cogent enough. He further stated that the defence lawyer was acting with the intention to further prolong Kanu's case which has suffered the same fate in the Nigerian domestic courts.

Expressing dismay, Justice Nwoke condemned the cowardly move of the Nigerian defence lawyer. He noted that the court case at Kaduna is not enough reason for his absence in the court session, insisting that the next court session will not entertain such flimsy excuses. He said "this case will not be adjourned beyond the next court session."

Recall that Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail on 19th October 2015 at the Magistrate Court and has been ordered to be released unconditionally by the Federal High Court, Abuja by Justice Adeniyi Ademola on 17th December 2015. These court orders till this day, is yet to be obeyed by the Nigerian government.

To this end, Kanu's defence team had on May 2016, dragged the Nigerian government to the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, for gross abuse of human rights and judicial process.

The National Judicial Council, NJC, though is yet to sanction Justice Tsoho (the judge that has presided over Kanu's case from 25th January 2016 till 26th September 2016) for these breaches, has frowned on this development at the Special Supreme Court session that marked the opening of the 2016/2017 legal year, noting that "such departures from precedent therefore risk creating the type of confusion which is inimical to the trust reposed in us by the people and we risk our reputation, our integrity and even our existence by such indiscipline. Charging further that "judges that has allowed their emotions to becloud the established standard of Judicial precedence must be checkmate."

  1. What a shame! President Buhari/Nigerian government has no case against Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. The justices at Ecowas court should dismiss the case and order the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He is an innocent man, who is seeking self determination for his people due to the severe marginalization and bondage in which his people are under in Nigeria. He has been in prison for one year now unjustly, while Boko haram terrorists are been freed all over Nigeria. Buhari is an evil, wicked and vindictive man.

Once I went to Nigeria to write a dissertation on the rate of criminality there. It was a horrible experience as I was pretty shocked by the situation in the country.
