Tuesday, 20th September, 2016

The police in Enugu, has confirmed the arrest of no fewer than 17 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who embarked on a sensitization rally yesterday at the state’s biggest market.

Speaking today on the arrest, the state’s Police Public Relation Officer, Ebere Amarizu said that the suspects were arrested during their ‘sit-at-home’ sensitization rally at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu.

The state’s police spokesperson stated that the suspects allegedly went into the market with a public address system and ordered the traders to observe a ’sit-at-home’ directive on September 23.

“Suspects were arrested by our operatives, as the alleged announcement was being carried out and 21 handsets were recovered from them.

“Also recovered, include flags suspected to be that of the group with their insignia, public address systems, one wireless microphone,” the statement said.

It also announced that the suspects would be arraigned in court after carrying out their investigations.

Meanwhile, Amarizu said that the police command had collaborated with other sister agencies to beef up security in parts of the state so as to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

“We advise the public not to allow themselves to be used under any guise to cause mischief, as anyone caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Amarizu warned.

The IPOB had earlier directed its members and those sympathetic to their cause to shut down economic and social activities in parts of the country on Sept. 23rd and remain at their homes in protest against the continued incarceration of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal government. They also demanded for the immediate release of all those illegally detained in the cause of the Biafran freedom.

  1. Freedom of speech is a right. The arrest by the police has no merit at all. A market is a public place where any person is free to go and pass leaflets, make announcement. It was very wrong and of jealous poor judgement for Temple Ude the Market president to Mastermind the arrest of the IPOB representative. The Biafra movement is really exposing the traitors in Biafra. It is now known that Temple Ude is enemy of Biafra like Uwazuruke, Ohaneze, Obianu, Okorocha, Umbaka. Temple Ude should be held accountable if anything dare happen to the IPOB that he betrayed. Temple Ude should know that his betrayer conducts is betrayer of every IPOB members both in Biafraland and around the world. Temple Ude is a coward!!!
