Exclusive: Until Nnamdi Kanu Is Released And Biafra Restored, My Freedom Means Nothing To Me~Amos To Biafra Writers

Saturday 13 August, 2016.

In an exclusive interview granted by the Imo State coordinator to Biafra writers, after their release on the 11th of August, 2016, by the Attorney General of The Federation (AGF), Amos Nkemjika narrated their ordeal since their arrest and also expressed unhappiness despite his release, over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, who is yet to regain his freedom since 0ctober 14th, 2015.

Biafra Writers: Good afternoon, Sir. My name is Anyikwa Kelechi Cynthia, of Biafra Writers, under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu. Can you tell us your name, Sir?

Answer: My name is Amos Nkemjika Ezekiel, from Abia State, in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, but precisely in Imo state where I'm serving the Biafra struggle as a state coordinator.

Biafra Writers: You have been in detention, since 9th of February 2016, is that correct?

Answer: Yes.

Biafra Writers: What was your offence?

Answer: I was arrested and charged for treason and an unlawful gathering.

Biafra Writers: Where were you on the day of your arrest?

Answer: We were told by our leaders to attend a prayer that will last for four (4) days, and which will involve four states, namely, Portharcourt, Imo state, Calabar and Abia state. National high school Aba was the venue for the prayer session and it was meant to start on the 9th of February 2016 and end on the 12th of February.

Biafra Writers: Were you protesting on that very day?

Answer: No! not a protest, rather it was to pray for the release of the leader of IPOB - Nnamdi Kanu.

Biafra Writers: What were you doing when you was arrested?

Answer: I was addressing the crowd on the platform, we didn't gather there to move around the streets, but instead to pray. We formed a platform where we will stay and address our people. The Nigerian Armed forces invaded the venue without any notice, I was with the megaphone singing and the men in uniform asked to speak with the leaders, we came out, then they commanded the five of us to enter their Hilux van and we did, then they drove off.

Biafra Writers: Where did they take you to?

Answer: They took the five (5) of us to their barracks at Asa high school Aba. While on the way, they tied our eyes and began to beat us with no mercy. When we got to the Army barrack, after a while, they took us back to Central Police Station - CPS Aba. On getting to the CPS, we saw our people including two dead bodies of IPOB murdered, in the hilux van, with numerous IPOB injured and moaning in pains with unending bleeding all over there bodies. Right there at the police station, we saw Biafran banners and flags being burnt. We were surprised and was moved to ask what was happening. “We left the venue when we were arrested by the Nigerian Army and nothing happened, how come all these drama?” Then we were told that after the Army took us away, they began to shoot sporadically at our people on the ground.

Biafra Writers: Those that were shot dead, were they armed that faithful day?

Answer: No! we were never armed.

Biafra Writers: Were you charged to court after your arrest?

Answer: Yes we were charged to court.

Biafra Writers: How many times did you appear in court since your detention?

Answer: Twice, but on the 10th of February 2016, we were taken to magistrate court two (2), that was when we heard the clerk read out the charges levied against us, which is treason and unlawful gathering. Today is the very first time our case would be heard in court and with the help of the Almighty, we were discharged and acquitted.

Biafra Writers: How many months have you spent in detention?

Answer: Six (6) months.

Biafra Writers: How do you feel, being released today?

Answer: I'm not feeling happy until Nnamdi Kanu is released and Biafra restored, only then will I be happy.

Biafra Writers: If by tomorrow, you are called for a protest or to conduct the same prayer session you were conducting on the day you were arrested, what will be your response?

Answer: I wish I'll even be called to organize something bigger than prayer session for Biafra to come. I'm happy partially because of our amiable leader - Nnamdi Kanu. We got a message from him about his being unhappy over our prolonged detention. For him alone, I can rightly say I'm happy, but until Biafra is restored, no happiness and no joy.

Biafra Writers: Do you have any message for Biafrans?

Answer: Biafrans should always remain resolute like our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, always says. We are winning, we are making a great impact towards restoring our freedom, the Nigerian government knows that, they equally know that they have lost it.

Biafra Writers: On behalf of Biafra Writers, I say welcome back and thank you for keeping time with us.

Answer: You're welcome, thank you too.
