Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Colonel Emmanuel Nwora Nwobosi was yesterday,  Friday the 15th of January, 2021, laid to rest in his country home, Obosi, Idemili north LGA of Anambra State.

The late army colonel was given a state burial by the Anambra state government in collaboration with the traditional rulers of the state who flanked his casket in their full traditional regalia, giving the occasion a touch of glamour.

Col Nwobosi who died on November 24th of last year was a former captain in the Nigerian army and a colonel in the Biafran army. A loyal soldier, he gave his all to whatever cause he undertook.

Born on 21st January 1939, Col Nwobosi attended St John’s College, Kaduna, in 1954. He joined the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in 1960, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant where he rose to the rank of a Captain in the Nigerian Army before the civil war in 1967.

Col Nwobosi was among the officers led by Major Nzeogwu that executed the January 15, 1966 military coup in Nigeria, aimed at restoring normalcy in the country and installing Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the Prime Minister.

Nwobosi was also one of the pioneers that set up the first field battery of the Nigerian Army Artillery. He passed on at 81, and his burial was a colourful one.
