Since the news broke that Justice Binta has been appointed as the new judge to preside over the case between the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and the federal government of Nigeria; after John Tsoho shamefully recused himself from the case, there has been mixed feelings from people in Biafraland, friends of Biafra, the international community and even among Nigerians, considering the fact that Justice Binta hails from the same Katsina state with dictator Muhammadu Buhari.
Many questions have been recurring in the mind of all and sundry such as: Why must Justice Binta who happens to be Buhari's sister be the one to continue from where the shameless John Tsoho stopped?
Could it be that she has been selected to come and fulfill the wish of the dictator in chief (Muhammadu Buhari) or to salvage the already battered image of the Nigerian Judiciary by John Tsoho, Muhammadu Buhari and his recalcitrant DSS?
Recalling the speech of Muhammadu Buhari during his first presidential media chat in December 2015, when he was querried about the flagrant disregard/flouting of court orders by his Government with regard to Nnamdi Kanu's case, he said: “The one you call Kanu, do you know he has two passports? One Nigerian, one British and he came to this country without using any passport? Do you know that he brought sophisticated equipment into this country and started broadcasting for Radio Biafra? There is a treasonable charge against him and I hope the court will listen to the case”. He insisted that Kanu must be jailed. It is therefore difficult for one to believe that justice Binta has not been selected by Muhammadu Buhari to come and complete the evil mission John Tsoho started.

However, with little hope, I also view tuesday 8th 2016, as an opportunity for Justice Binta to make a positive impact in restoring the already soiled image of the Nigerian judiciary by standing by the law and upholding justice. It is an opportunity to pick up the pieces of the broken judiciary and mending it, it is an opportunity to break the jinx of perversion of justice that is now a canker-worm in the Buhari-led administration and become a judge to be remembered for doing the right thing.
Justice Binta should stand by the law and not by her brother Muhammadu Buhari who disobeys court orders; she must free Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally as ordered by her predecessors before Tsoho, so as to prove humanity wrong of her negative impression of the Nigerian judiciary. Even in the face of intimidation and dictatorship, justice Binta has no excuse but to stand firm and perform her duty diligently.
November 8 2016 is a date that humanity have been waiting for, justice Binta should wisely tow the line of Justice Ademola Adeniyi, one of the bravest judge in judiciary, who stood firm in the face of tyranny by declaring Nnamdi Kanu released; as against the path of disgrace that John Tsoho chose. If she chooses to stand by Muhammadu Buhari, that will amount to aiding and abetting dictatorship and strangling of democracy, which will eventually lead to total anarchy and what might precede such scenario is better imagined than witnessed.
The eyes of the international community are wide open; Amnesty International, Human Right Watch, EU, UN and AU are on high alert with their searchlight focused on justice Binta.
The Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB are expecting nothing less than the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu.
