The residents of Amansia community of Awka North local government area, Anambra State, are yet to get over the shock of the awful scene of floating dead bodies in Ezu river. The numbers are neither in tens, nor twenties nor thirties –well over one hundred dead bodies were recovered, already decaying beyond recognition.
Though some families could still recognize the bodies of some of these men as theirs after days of missing, the government of Anambra State and the Police who claimed to be at the top of the investigation are yet to provide the bereaved families with explanations to this incident that claimed the lives of these young men (mostly between the ages of 28 – 55 years).
As at the date of this ugly incident (19th January 2016), CSP (Chief Superintendent of Police) James Nwafor Oshim was the commanding officer of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), while Peter Obi was the serving Governor of Anambra State. Both men have done everything they could to bury this case and terminate the investigation; they have frustrated all efforts towards revealing the culprits behind this atrocity by means of perpetual pseudo investigation.

The striking factor about this incident is that all the victims were found to be members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State Of Biafra, MASSOB, at a time the federal government is staging a clamp down on Biafra agitators in the region. No doubt, both the state and federal government did all they could to hinder the investigation.
At the heat of the investigation, the government hurriedly transferred CSP James Nwafor out of the state to calm the situation and exonerated him completely from every responsibility associated with the incidence. However, the bereaved families are not ready to take a ‘’No’’ for an answer; no matter how long it takes, the families are committed to any useful information that will help to unearth unknown events behind their death.
Yes, it is evident that they were murdered; they were murdered on the grounds of ‘’Self Determination; CSP James and Governor Peter Obi masterminded it –what the bereaved families are looking for is an evidence beyond these compelling assumptions, enough to convict Mr James and Peter Obi.

Pending that, what the families have tagged ‘’unacceptable’’ is the return of this same CSP James back to Anambra State. Some families, mostly at Nnewi and environs have also forwarded a petition to Anambra State government to this regards. They have warned that ‘’a new face of agitation will emerge if CSP James Nwafor is not quickly redeployed from Anambra state’’, noting that his presence will only reopen the already healing wounds.
The return of CSP James has also come at a time there is a heavy tension between the State/Federal government and Biafra agitators; it came less than five months over 500 Biafrans were killed at Nkpor, less than 14 days Amnesty International indicted SARS of maltreating suspects and collecting bribe. James Nwafor has come back to Anambra state at a time the tyrant president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has sworn to crush Biafran agitators unapologetically.

Having escaped from this crime, it is obvious that Mr James has come back to Anambra state to continue from where he stopped. He is back to further engage in the unjust and unprovoked killings of Biafra agitators. Mr James’ comeback to Anambra state is a proof and a bare faced arrogance which indicates that the government has no plans to expose the masterminds of the Ezu river incident.
BiafraWriters together with families of the victims and Biafrans at large, charge the government of Nigeria to redeploy CSP James Nwafor from Anambra State. We also demand the justice for the families of these victims and an end to unjust killings of Biafra agitators.
