NNAMDI KANU, A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM.

NNAMDI KANU, A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM.
By Chima Onyekachi

On the 22nd of November 2015, the draconic Nigeria State Secret Service finally arraigned the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before the Magistrate Court Wuse,Abuja. They had previously denied his arrest, flouted three court orders to release him, transfer him to prison and produce him in court on the 18th of November 2015. During the court proceeding, the prosecutor for the Nigeria government asked for the withdrawal of the case to enable them transfer the case to a higher court of jurisdiction claiming they had stumbled on evidence against Nnamdi Kanu for "financing and sponsoring terrorism"

Nnamdi Kanu is a freedom fighter who has awoken his people and made them realize whom they are as indigenous people who can exercise their right as enshrined in the United Nations charter. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have never destroyed or caused mayhem in any part of Biafraland or Nigeria but have embarked on an historic peaceful demonstration all across the world. If Nnamdi Kanu is been suspected to be a terrorist because he is speaking for his peoples' right for self-determination then the United Nations should also be accused of terrorism. Abubakar Shekau of BokoHaram and his followers have killed thousands and displaced millions but President Muhammad Buhari still insist they are his "misguided brothers" and should be negotiated with.

Nnamdi Kanu has been unlawfully detained for over a month, tortured and brutalized which was clearly seen during his appearance in court. Though his body might have been broken and he was refused from speaking to his people but his spirit is more resolute than ever. With both arms raised high and fisted hands,he has passed a message of assurance to his followers that he would not relent in his quest for our freedom. Nnamdi Kanu left the comfort of his father's palace, the cool atmosphere of London and comforting arms of his wife and child to seek for our freedom. He will forever remain a symbol of freedom just like Martin Luther,Nelson Mandela, etc and history will always remember him.
