“If Amaechi can fight Jonathan, how are you sure that he will not fight Buhari and Tinubu, come 2019?” a social critic queried.
A cross section of Nigerians has aired their views with reasons, why President Muhammadu Buhari denied the Former Governor Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi the Post of Secretary General of the Federation, SGF or the Chief of Staff, COS.
Reacting on social media on Friday, a concerned Nigerian, Emeka Tochukwu opined that although Amaechi was one of the key financiers of the Buhari’s Presidential bid, he refused to see the hand writing on the wall because he decided to betray his brother (Goodluck Jonathan)
Eke Uchenna said: “From aspiration of being a Vice President to aspiration of SGF. Now all those are taken away. What next?’’
He added; “Amaechi, the Judas betrayer of his brother.”
Buhari on Wednesday approved the appointments of Babachir David Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff to the President and Hameed Ibrahim Ali (as Comptroller-General Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, in addition to other key appointments.
The 27 major appointments made so far by the administration have mostly been northerners.
Amaechi who is alleged to have spent N30 billion funding the presidential election of Buhari has been left out in the cold.
During the party primaries in December 2014, Amaechi was seen rallying support for his preferred candidate-Buhari-forcing many to speculate that he would be tapped for the position of the Vice President.
All that turned out to be a load of bullocks, as the General after being pressed by his benefactor Tinubu, picked the latter’s former attorney general-Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to the surprise of many party members and neutrals.
Amaechi’s misfortune, had prompted the State Chairman, of PDP in Rivers State Felix Obuah, to issue out a statement saying that Amaechi was living in a fool’s paradise, having been deceived by the APC leaders.
Obuh stressed that the paramount interest of Ahmed Tinubu and his cabal, was only in creating avenues for squandering Rivers tax payers, money and resources without conceding any sensitive top elective position to Amaechi
“The Party recalls that Amaechi, after spending billions of Rivers money, lobbying for the National Chairmanship slot of the Party, was rigged out, he further wasted over N17b canvassing for the emergence of the former military dictator, Gen. Buhari, to pave way for his selection as Vice Presidential candidate.
“While the Governor was struggling to recuperate from the shock of his rejection as Buhari’s running mate, the APC leaders have just thrown in another banana peel, naming him (Amaechi) as campaign manager, only to encourage the prodigal son to continue to milk dry the resources of Rivers State,” the statement had read in part.
According to an analyst; “Amaechi was compensated as the town crier of the APC.”
He was in fact handed the role of the Director General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Organisation,
According to a source “It was a big shock to him. This is a man who almost laid down his life, fought Jonathan his kinsmen to the end, spent billions of his own money and state money to ensure Buhari emerged, and is treated this way? Who is the new SGF, where was he when we were working hard for Buhari.”
According to another close ally “He has left Nigeria, he was so upset, I think to just cool off and think of what to do next because in Rivers, Wike has shut him out, and there is nothing much in Abuja.”
One Sylvanus Prime wrote: “Buhari ministerial list is like admission list, Amaechi has failed the merit list. Let him wait for supplementary list.”
Amity Prince said: “The only way Buhari can enhance his corruption war is to dump this troublemaker called Amaechi”
Others who expressed their feelings said Amaechi cannot collaborate with outsiders to fight his relatives. He has been used and dumped.
