ANAMBRA— At least one member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was on Wednesday, reportedly killed while two others are still in a very critical condition after men of the Nigeria Police Force, violently invaded their gathering at Central School Ekwulobia, firing tear gas canisters at the crowd.

The IPOB Anambra South Senatorial Coordinator, Mr. Ernest Mmuo, who disclosed this to Biafra Writers Reporter, said the other two surviving casualties are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries on their heads while anticipating the arrival of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Ekwulobia today(yesterday).

“The policemen, army, and Navy with the Civil Defence Corps have received a prior information about the coming of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Anambra South today.

“We had planned to converge at the Stadium but due to the State governor didn't want us to stay there, they locked up the Stadium, which can only cost a hundred thousand naira, if they should ask us to pay.

“We, therefore, decided to host our leader at the St. John's Anglican Church of which we reached an agreement with the Church management to allow us assembly there peacefully.

“But surprisingly, we wake up today, to see well-equipped armed military men, surrounding the venue where our people had gathered and started shooting tear gas directly into the crowd.

“Three was seriously wounded and taken to the hospital of which one of them is said to be dead as he sustained deep head injuries as a result of the tear gas shot at close range into his head,” Mr. Mmuo explained.

The Coordinator who blamed the State governor, Willie Obiano, for drafting security agencies to cause mayhem, queried the motive behind invading the rally with Hausa/Fulani operatives even when there was no breach of the public peace.

Another eyewitness observed that the security operatives had been patrolling the nooks and crannies of the town, including the Stadium and other public places in search of IPOB members.

However, when Biafra Writers Reporter, arrived the scene, operatives of various security agencies, armed to the teeth, had dispersed the crowd as they were seen mounting surveillance and patrolling the premises of the Central School, Ekwulobia, the supposed venue of the rally.

Further checks done by our Reporter, indicated that two victims of the Police were lying critically and writhing in pain at the hospital while health workers has commenced treatment on them.

A woman said to be selling Biafra coloured items at the venue of the event, was also harassed by the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Officer, DPO, who burnt their items to ashes.
