ENUGU MASSACRE: BIAFRA WRITERS VISIT TO NIMBO/UKPABI COMMUNITY.

NEMA Addressing Nimbo Indigenes And Providing Relief Materials To Them

A state of complete normalcy and calmness is yet to be restored to the Nimbo community and other neighbouring communities as dints of palpable fear and tension are still hovering within the inhabitants of the communities as some displaced/missing persons are yet to be recovered following the early morning raid on the community on Monday 25th April, 2016 by murderous Fulani herdsmen.

When BIAFRA WRITERS/TV visited Nimbo community on Saturday, 30th April 2016, there was a huge presence of men of the Nigerian security operatives patrolling the area, some sections of the village seems to be deserted as our attention was captured by a house and vehicle razed down during the arson by nomadic Fulani herders.

According to one of the villagers, Chikelu, who escorted us inside the areas of the incident, the villagers through their monarch, Igwe John Aku, was earlier alerted of the impending attack by the Fulani herdsmen before they eventually struck on that fateful day. He explained that following the message of the imminent attack, the monarch had promptly alerted the nearby security agencies who rushed down to the community but later left before the unfortunate incident occurred.

He stated that it took the intervention of Policemen all the way from Nsukka to quell the attack but before they could arrive, the Fulani herdsmen whom he said had invaded their community through nearby Kogi state and had left through the same bush linking both states, had already inflicted major injuries, damages, and killings on many inhabitants of the community before the arrival of the police.

He mentioned that part of the casualties recorded, was one youth corper who had initially left but went back to collect the documents he forgot before the incident happened and also a 19 year old girl who just arrived from Canada. Another indigene who pleaded anonymity further explained the routine these killings took, the herdsmen cuts off the hands and fingers of each victim, including their hearts and made away with it. It was a gory sight to behold he lamented.

Another member of the community who equally gave the same account pointed out that one Policeman identified as Corporal Chukwu from Benue state, aided and abetted the killings by the Fulani cattlemen when he commanded them to shoot at some villagers working on their farmlands earlier that very day.
Some who had escaped the attack it was gathered, rushed straight to the village to inform others unaware of the ugly development.

He further stated that the Fulani herdsmen had attacked them with machetes, assault rifles and other lethal weapons, slaughtering and maiming anyone they can lay their evil hands on. He said that for the unavailability of deadly weapons, they could not repel the attacks against them but resorted to scampering for safe havens.

According to him, when the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) from Adani Police station arrived at the scene, the villagers in a rage went after Corporal Chukwu and when asked by the DPO, the villagers protested that Corporal Chukwu is a "saboteur" who led the Herdsmen to attack and slaughter his people.
To avert further crisis or reprisal attacks from the villagers, reports had it that the Police Corporal was immediately retrenched back to Adani police station from where it is believed he was taken to their station in Abuja for further interrogations.

A woman identified as Odinaka Akor on hearing the arrival of BIAFRA WRITERS, rushed to give her own account of the incident.
The woman who spoke in her local dialect with agony and eyes full of passionate tears, stated that the Fulani nomadic herders chanted "Allahu Akbar" while unleashing mayhem on their victims, saying that she is now left alone, having lost the only two brothers she had in the unfortunate destruction.

"I was returning back from my morning prayers on that unpleasant day, when I noticed the Fulani herders had murdered my brother CY Akor who had already been buried and the other Innocent Akor still missing and yet to be found dead or alive" she agonized, pleading for help from good-spirited individuals and groups.

When BIAFRA WRITERS/TV crew visited the Igwe's Palace, a team of National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) from both the federal and state governments were seen addressing the monarch and some villagers on their rehabilitation mission to the community. The monarch who spoke through his spokesman, acknowledged the presence of BIAFRA WRITERS, saying that at the present situation, he is indisposed to grant us interview as the matter is both political and apolitical.

"At the present situation, the Igwe cannot grant you audience as he is not feeling fine, you know the issue is both political and apolitical and I wouldn't want the Igwe to say things that could further aggravate the situation, but you can come back later for details," he informed.

At Uvuru community; a neighbouring village to Nimbo, some inhabitants of the village were sighted been addressed by the Senator representing Enugu North senatorial district, Senator Chukwuka Utazi who tasked NEMA to provide succour and to see to it that relief materials are being dispatched to the affected communities raided by Fulani herdsmen. Ngana who is also a farmer at Nimbo community explained that the rift between them and the Fulani herdsmen was that they vehemently opposed the destruction of their crops, cultivated/farm products and their farmlands by the cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen.

He said that any opposition from the farmers always culminated with the surrendering and threatening of their lives with brandishing guns and other deadly weapons by the nomadic herders.
He equally stated that it was earlier in April that they received a shocking letter of the impending attack written by Fulani herdsmen, warranting the men of the community to convene an emergency meeting to seek for ways to proffer solutions.

He stated that the community monarch also alerted the security agencies in the state and this saw the arrival of some army and policemen safeguarding the community at nights, but the ugly incident happened early in the morning when Fulani herdsmen slaughtered all those who had went early to work on their farmlands before they proceeded inside the remaining part of the village, killing people, destroying their properties and razing down some houses and vehicles in the well-coordinated arson/attack.

According to him, he could not ascertain the number of dead victims as some villagers counted 20 and above, but he is fully aware that many victims were dispersed to other nearby hospitals in Nsukka and some people whom he said are still missing up till now. He said that the Enugu state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Senator representing the zone paid them a visit at the hospital.
The situation at the National Orthopedic hospital Enugu could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, but we shall bring it to you, as well as the video coverage as soon as possible. To watch video, kindly visit BIAFRA TELEVISION.

From our findings here in Uzo-Uwani, it is now certified that Boko haram has invaded Biafra land under the guise of Fulani herdsmen. All are advised to be cautious of their environment, because we are already at war.
