He stated that it took the intervention of Policemen all the way from Nsukka to quell the attack but before they could arrive, the Fulani herdsmen whom he said had invaded their community through nearby Kogi state and had left through the same bush linking both states, had already inflicted major injuries, damages, and killings on many inhabitants of the community before the arrival of the police.
He mentioned that part of the casualties recorded, was one youth corper who had initially left but went back to collect the documents he forgot before the incident happened and also a 19 year old girl who just arrived from Canada. Another indigene who pleaded anonymity further explained the routine these killings took, the herdsmen cuts off the hands and fingers of each victim, including their hearts and made away with it. It was a gory sight to behold he lamented.
Another member of the community who equally gave the same account pointed out that one Policeman identified as Corporal Chukwu from Benue state, aided and abetted the killings by the Fulani cattlemen when he commanded them to shoot at some villagers working on their farmlands earlier that very day.
Some who had escaped the attack it was gathered, rushed straight to the village to inform others unaware of the ugly development.
He further stated that the Fulani herdsmen had attacked them with machetes, assault rifles and other lethal weapons, slaughtering and maiming anyone they can lay their evil hands on. He said that for the unavailability of deadly weapons, they could not repel the attacks against them but resorted to scampering for safe havens.
According to him, when the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) from Adani Police station arrived at the scene, the villagers in a rage went after Corporal Chukwu and when asked by the DPO, the villagers protested that Corporal Chukwu is a "saboteur" who led the Herdsmen to attack and slaughter his people.
To avert further crisis or reprisal attacks from the villagers, reports had it that the Police Corporal was immediately retrenched back to Adani police station from where it is believed he was taken to their station in Abuja for further interrogations.
