USA: Obama sends 42 US officials to assist Buhari his friend on dying economy, security, others

The United States (US) President, Barack Obama, has sent a 42-member delegation to Nigeria to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s three priority areas of economy, security and governance.

The Leader of the delegation, Ms. Samantha Power, said on Thursday in Abuja that the three areas security, economy and governance remain the focus of the team’s visit to Nigeria.
At a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, Power said that Nigeria was a strategic partner to the US, not only in Africa, but globally.
She said: “As you (Onyeama) indicated, Obama has sent me and members of his cabinet to lead an inter-agency delegation to Nigeria.”

Power, who is the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), said the delegation would reflect on the three pillars of the present administration which are security, economy and governance.

She explained that the partnership is so much bigger and would bear fruits to include other aspects of the partnership.
“It will include dealing with the Boko Haram, trade, economic development, the strengthening of institutions and the fight that you, the country is waging against corruption.
“All of these are intrinsically central for the people of Nigeria who want to live in a secured environment and dignity and have maximum opportunities”.

According to her, all the other aspects that the visit will cover include focus on critical areas for dealing with the emergency situations, caused by the Boko Haram insurgency.
She also said that the Nigeria-U.S. Bi-National Commission meeting, which held in Washington in March, had started yielding fruitful results.

“It’s been a very fruitful dialogue and I think there is a lot of homework that has come out of it.
“And there are a number of issues which I look forward to discussing with you; that’s how we move forward in stronger ways,” she said.

In his comment, Onyeama said: “I will like to express on behalf of Nigeria, our profound gratitude to your government for the very strong solidarity you have shown in this struggle and in all aspects in military intelligence and humanitarian aid; your visit is a demonstration of your support and that you stand by us and our neighbouring countries. We thank you for coming to see the problems and challenges we face in this regard.”

  3. Nigerians wake up to this Obama/Buhari saga. Alias, in the midst of Buhari's economic depression will now pick up another heavy financial tag from Obama. Who pays for all this nonsense. Nigeria has whatever it will take to uplift herself from the economic woes that Buhari created. The problem is that he has to understand that Nigeria cannot be ruled by appointing Fulani/Duala renegades in power. Right now we are forced to have two sets of Federal cabinets one locally formulated by and for Buhari’s Islamic tendencies and the other by the Obama strategic grab machine. NIGERIANS WHO PAYS FOR ALL THIS PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED OR DECIEVED ASK QUESTIONS, PROTEST AND SPEAK UP.
