IPOB Trial (COURT UPDATE): Sureties To Show Cause Why They Should Not Forfeit Their Bail Bonds

[The Biafra Times correspondents]

A Division of the Federal High Court Abuja had inscribed today for the continuity of trial between the Federal government of Nigeria and the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu; whose case was severed from the other quartet defendants.

Meanwhile, since the military invasion of Kanu's homestead which prompted his absence in court, his sureties have been summoned severally to produce Nnamdi Kanu, their principal, or forfeit their respective bail bonds.

Trial Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, in her November 14, 2018 ruling, had held that Abaribe and the two other sureties owed the court the duty of producing Kanu. The court also ordered the sureties to in the interim, deposit the bail bond in the court within two months.

However, the senator, through his counsel, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN), filed an amended notice of appeal and a brief of argument to challenge the Federal High Court’s decisions. In the same light, the two other sureties, Immanu-El Shalom Oka-Ben Madu and Tochukwu Uchendu also through their counsels filed their contention against the ruling of High Court in the court of appeal.

Therefore, the basis of  today's trial is pending on the legal applications that is or would be put forward by the defence counsels.

Nevertheless, we look forward to the integrity of the court to carry out the proceedings of today, with every ounce of justice.
