ENUGU - Some family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were on Tuesday, reportedly arrested in Enugu by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to our Correspondent, the apprehended IPOB members whose number cannot be immediately ascertained were swooped on by agents of State Police shortly after dignitaries of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, dispersed from their meeting premises at the Universal Hotel, Enugu.

It was further noted that an altercation erupted at the meeting following an announcement by Mr. Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, Secretary of ECA, who proceeded to award posthumously, the late former president of Nigeria and Pioneer of Nigeria's independence Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The agitators who expressed their dissatisfaction with the move, berated the dignitaries as they chanted "All we want is Biafra" which caused rowdiness in the meeting hall.

One of the agitators who spoke to our Correspondent said that honouring the late Azikiwe who fought for the unity of Nigeria when he was alive, was not part of the programmes of the event.

According to him, "We are not here to award Nnamdi Azikiwe who fought for Nigeria's independence and unity which has caused us misery and turned us into slaves in Nigeria. We are disappointed with what happened at the meeting today."

It was further gathered that some persons may have sustained injuries while scampering for safety as operatives of the Nigeria Police fired teargas canisters and shot severally on the air to disperse the gathering which has since turned rowdy.

Some arrests of members interviewing people were equally made and taken to their yet-to-be ascertained station as armed security agents violently descended on some group of people standing outside the meeting premises.

  1. We expected nothing less than that.
All nigeria should know is that the restoration of Biafra is a divine project which no man born of a woman can stop.
